About
I'm Mariya Boshar, and I teach Physics in Harpenden. My path here wasn't a vector, straight from classroom to classroom — it went through a Physics degree at UCL, a machine learning research internship at the University of Oxford, and eventually a scholarship from the Institute of Physics to train as a Physics teacher at Magdalen College, Oxford. Each step changed how I think about what "understanding Physics" actually means.
This background shapes how I teach. I don't treat Physics as a fixed set of facts to memorise — I treat it as a way of reasoning that holds up under pressure, whether the problem is a block on an inclined plane or analysing Simple Harmonic Motion. Start from first principles, and the formulas stop needing to be memorised at all.
In practice, that means every session starts with "why," not "what." We build up to the formula rather than starting from it — so by the time it's written down, it's not really new information anymore, just a shorthand for something the student already understands.
